There is no right or wrong choices when planning your wedding. Your ceremony and reception should be unique to you and your tastes.
We've seen some very fun, creative and different musical approaches to ceremony music if you're looking to go beyond traditional classical. There's a group called the Vitamin String Quartet that has made stringed versions of current and classic songs from artists such as Metallica, Adele, Beatles, Blink 182, Dashboard Confessional, 311, 30 Seconds To Mars, Death Cab For Cutie and More! This group has made some Rock, Indie, Country, Contemporary and Top 40 music accessible for weddings.
Another approach to ceremony music is to select original artist versions of love songs. We've compiled some great selections from Ray LaMontagne, Harry Connick Jr., Colbie Caillet, Jason Mraz, John Mayer, John Legend and more. Some more upbeat contemporary songs can set a great mood to the start of your ceremony and celebration.
Whatever your taste, make your music selections unique and special to you!

A live band or orchestra can bring a great feel and energy to a room when they play. They can also bring a bigger price tag than a DJ. If you are the type of couple that would love to have that live music feel but don't have the big band budget then consider a smaller ensemble with a transition to a DJ for later in the reception. Consider a string or jazz ensemble with 3-4 players to kick off your cocktail or dinner hours. Your DJ can already be set up and still facilitate introductions, toasts and any other formalities while working with the musicians. Once dinner is over you can transition to the DJ for the remainder of your evening. If you are hosting your ceremony at the same venue as your reception you can take advantage of having your musicians play for your ceremony and then transition to your cocktails. Our most popular ensemble is our Violin and Classical Guitar duo. They can play anything from classical selections to more contemporary tunes. Given enough time, they can also learn any special selections you may want for your ceremony that aren't in their play list.

Let’s say you and your fiancé designate a night to create your playlist for your wedding. It’s Thursday night, and you both sit down at the table with a sheet of paper or your laptop spreadsheet. You are ready to rattle off songs and nothing specific comes to mind. You know genres or how a song sounds but cannot put it down on paper. One idea is to place sticky pads and a pen in your car, your place of work, on your kitchen table. Then place a box marked “WEDDING SONGS” in your home where you place your keys, purse, or wallet at the end of your day. When you hear a song, write it down and place the piece of paper in your pocket. Don’t write while driving though - pull over! At the end of the day, when you empty your pocket with receipts, change, etc… place the note in the box. You may be pleasantly surprised after a week or two at how many songs you and your fiancé will collect. Now, when you pick that night to create your song list, empty out your “WEDDING SONGS” box and go through your list.
Song ideas may come at the most unplanned time like in your car, in an elevator, or at a store. Let them come naturally and you'll have a great list compiled in no time!

Hannah and Joe were such a great couple to work with. They really knew how to laugh, have fun and obviously love each other very much. They hosted their reception in the pavilion at Fountain Blue in Des Plaines. Uplighting in purple helped carry through her vision of the decor to match the linens. Dale and Keith had so much fun playing to them and their guests. Hannah and Joe even had a fun choreographed first dance!
